Hi, my name is Kieran. I first heard about this game called poker 10 years ago when I was watching the WSOP on tv. After upgrading to Rounders and High Stakes Poker I decided to try my hand at actually playing the game instead of watching others have all the fun. Countless painfully learned lessons later I seem to have finally found a way to extract enough money from the game to avoid that dreaded nuisance that is commonly known as the 9-5.
Before my luck turned around I was as misguided a player as you will ever find. Bankroll management and tilt control were concepts that eluded me completely. My strategic knowledge for beating cash games was based on reading Doyle Brunson’s Super System (published in 1978) and Harrington on Hold’Em – Expert Strategy for No Limit Tournaments. Let’s just say I wasn’t playing an optimal strategy.
Finally a few years ago I found a book that actually covered how you get started in online poker from the lowest limits up – BlackRain79’s Crushing the Microstakes. That was the point where everything changed for me in poker and I slowly worked my way through the limits.
These days I play mostly NL50 6-max cash on Pokerstars. I am by no means an outstanding player or a baller that crushes high stakes. But I do earn enough money from playing a game that I can live in one of the nicest places on earth – Chiang Mai, Thailand. Besides poker, I also run a German website about household products. Not quite as exciting, but it helps pay the bills during downswings.
If you’re ever in the area, let me know and we’ll grab a beer. Until then I hope you find something useful and maybe even entertaining on this blog from time to time.
